We Learn To Worship, Pray and Give to God

The Tabernacle in the Wilderness

Exodus 36—40
God directed Moses to lead the people to build a place to worship, the Tabernacle. Like their homes, the people transported the tent of worship wherever they moved.

The Beautiful Temple

2 Chronicles 6—9
Solomon built the first permanent house of worship and led his people in a public dedication service. The Temple was renowned for its elegant beauty.

The Lord’s Church

Acts 2:1-47
This lesson ties worship to the present. The first church had no building. The power of the Holy Spirit that came at Pentecost gave believers the ability to do the work Jesus left His first church to accomplish.

The Wise Men Worship Jesus

Matthew 2:1-12
Worship is a loving response toward God, and we may worship Him in our homes. The wise men worshiped Jesus in His home and honored Him with precious gifts.

Hannah Prays

1 Samuel 1:1—2:11
A childless woman wanted a baby more than anything. She asked God for a son whom she promised to dedicate to God’s service.

Elijah’s Prayer

1 Kings 18:17-46
In a time when God’s people practiced idolatry, Elijah boldly challenged Baal’s prophets to a contest. The God who answered their prayers by fire would be declared the true God.

Nehemiah Prays

Nehemiah 1; 2
Despair over conditions in Jerusalem caused Nehemiah to fast and pray for God’s intervention.

Jesus Teaches Us To Pray

Matthew 6:1-15
The Lord’s Model Prayer is a pattern for effective prayer today.

Peter’s Friends Pray for Him

Acts 12:1-19
The church’s prayer vigil moved prison doors. God sent an angel to remove Peter from prison when fellow-believers had a home prayer meeting to ask God to release Peter.

Gifts for God’s House

Exodus 35
The Israelites brought more supplies than the workers needed to build the Tabernacle. Their generous giving provided materials God specified for making the tent of worship a beautiful place for Him to dwell among His people.

Joash’s Treasure Chest

2 Kings 12:1-15; 2 Chronicles 24:1-14
A very young king began a Temple renovation project. He placed a special receptacle by the entry into which people gave generous freewill offerings for the restoration.

The Poor Woman Gives

Mark 12:41-44
This Bible story about the widow who gave all she had teaches the principle of sacrificial giving. Jesus stressed the heart attitude as being more important than the amount of the gift.

Peter Gives What He Has

Acts 3:1-12
Without money to help the lame beggar, Peter healed him in the name of Jesus. This final lesson focuses on giving things besides money to God.

Worship, Prayer and Stewardship

The goal of worship is man communing with God. Students who learn to offer God true worship will enjoy a precious relationship with Him that transforms them to become more like the Son of God.

In real worship we discover anew that God’s thoughts and ways far exceed our own. Worship is the nucleus of church activities. Everything the church believes, does and tries to achieve revolves around its responsiveness to God’s greatness in worship.

Children who learn to meet God in His Word discover new meaning in prayer, singing, preaching and giving. God becomes more real and the Bible more exciting as we interrupt daily routines to lift our hearts in worship to God. Our motives must be to please God and glorify Him alone.

Boys and girls can understand the difference between the emptiness of routine formality and the vibrant and personal involvement of the mind, emotions and will to adore the eternal God. Worship leads to obedient actions that glorify God. It should lead to personal enrichment and spiritual strength to help the believer carry the burdens and fight the battles of life. We do not worship God for what we can get out of it, but we worship because He is worthy of worship. True worship transforms our lives. Emphasizing the glory of God instead of our own spiritual conditions opens our spirits to the power of His Spirit. We reveal an increasing glory that causes others to see Christ and honor Him.

Prayer is such a significant part of Christian living that children just beginning their walk with the Lord must know its value. It is probably the most neglected aspect of spiritual growth because of our busy schedules. Prayer time gets bumped in the rush of daily priorities.

Children need confidence that prayer makes a difference in life because they can talk to the living God who has all power. Communication with God is a continual process during the day, not just repeating memorized prayer poems at mealtimes and before going to bed.

For prayer to be meaningful to your learners it must have importance in your own life. During this unit especially, practice having a special time each day to talk to God. As you see Him make things happen for which you pray, your teaching ministry will intensify in spiritual depth.

Believing that prayer can help is the beginning of an intimate fellowship with God. The lessons in this unit are examples of prayer that made a difference. Young learners will enjoy the exciting experience of having their prayers answered, but to receive answers, they must pray.

Faith is the crucial requirement of acceptable prayer. Unless we believe God and depend on Him for everything, we cannot expect His answers to our requests.
