A Historical Sketch of Baptist Associational Work

The first association of Baptist in the United States was the Philadelphia Baptist Association which was organized in 1707.  The Philadelphia Association was active for 138 years before the Southern Baptist Convention was constituted.

Our people withdrew from the convention because of trends it was making by departing from the Scriptures in doing mission work on assumed authority, rather than by the authority which Christ gave to his churches.

The Baptist General Association of the United States was organized on March 22, 1905, at Texarkana.

The BMA of Texas was organized in 1900.

The State Association of Missionary Baptist Churches was organized at Little Rock, Arkansas, April 10-11, 1902.

The Baptist State Association of Oklahoma was organized in the year 1903.

The New Baptist Convention of Oklahoma was organized in the year 1920.

The Baptist State Association of Oklahoma and the New Baptist Convention of Oklahoma were unified in the year 1925, and became the Baptist General Assembly of Oklahoma.

The Louisiana State Association of regular Missionary Baptist Churches was organized in 1924.

On March 4th and 5th, 1924, the Unification Conference was held at Texarkana, composed of messengers from two hundred and fity-seven churches from several states.  During this conference the American Baptist Association was organized.1
